Journalist
Edward Szekeres is a journalist who works as a correspondent based in Slovakia for the Balkan Investigative Reporting Network (BIRN) with an occasional scoop from Hungary. His work at BIRN revolves around reporting on major political and socio-economic trends in the CEE region. He also acts as a fixer for international outlets in Slovakia and reports for local media on a wide range of topics, from sports all the way to foreign affairs. He’s part of a range of cross-border journalistic initiatives with an onus on slow investigative reporting, such as the European Collaborative Journalism Programme (ECJP) and various international networks for freelance muckrakers.
He holds a law degree from Queen Mary, University of London and a sports management degree from the Johan Cruyff Institute in Amsterdam. When not scooping about for stories, he’s completing his MA in Journalism at the University of Groningen, where he received his professional training in newsmaking.
